What is an NFPA 1582 physical?
NFPA 1582 is the National Fire Protection Association standard for a firefighter’s occupational medical exam. It defines a comprehensive evaluation, covering cardiovascular and pulmonary health, vision, hearing, and other systems, that helps determine whether a firefighter can safely perform the job. NDS delivers an NFPA 1582 aligned exam on-site at your station.
Is it covered by insurance, and does it work for self-insured employers?
Many of our services can be covered under existing health plans, which makes on-site screening a strong fit for self-insured employers looking to manage costs while improving employee health.
How long is each employee appointment?
Each employee gets a full 30 minutes with a healthcare provider, a real appointment, not a quick screening table.
Is there a minimum number of employees?
We design programs for a range of workforce sizes and will tell you what fits during the consultation.
What happens if a health issue is found?
We do not hand your employee a printout and send them away. We explain the findings, coordinate follow-up care, and provide referrals so they get the treatment they need.
Is employee health information kept private?
Yes. Results stay confidential between the employee and the clinician. We share only what is needed for the employee’s own care.
How do you handle multiple shifts?
We see first, second, and third shift. Night and rotating-shift employees get the same access as day workers.
